BSI signs Cooperation Agreement with The Standards Council of Canada

26 October 2018

BSI, the business standards company, today signed a Cooperation Arrangement with The Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the national standards body of Canada, to advance cooperation between both organizations.

BSI works closely with SCC on many matters of mutual interest, including collaboration at the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission. This Cooperation Arrangement will help further strengthen trade relations between the two nations.

BSI is appointed by Her Majesty’s Government as the UK National Standards Body. This includes developing and maintaining strategically important relationships with key international partners to increase the use and adoption of international standards, in alignment with UK economic priorities. This is important as standards play a key role in promoting productivity and efficiency, reducing costs, reducing barriers to trade and driving economic growth.

Chantal Guay, CEO of the Standards Council of Canada said: “The strong relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom is one based on cooperation and mutual respect. Our countries work together in many different ways, and I am delighted to continue building on our collaborative relationship through this Cooperation Arrangement.”

Scott Steedman, Director of Standards at BSI added: “The UK and Canada have an extremely strong relationship, and the agreement signed today seeks to build on this. The increased use of international standards can act as a catalyst to increase trade in goods and services between the UK and Canada. The cooperation agreement provides a vehicle to identify priority areas where working in partnership we can support bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.”
